SONIC EMERGENCY

SOUND INSTALLATION/2022

A work activated exclusively by smoking features an object mounted at head level on a wall, equipped with a smoke detector. When the audience smokes, the system within the space is triggered, initiating a playful sequence of signals, fire alarms, sounds, and lights. These elements create a chaotic, clumsy warning of danger, with variations in alarming sounds, high-pitched sirens, and randomized shifts in volume, tone, and rhythm. The result is a "festival of security." The concept reflects a constant state of fight-or-flight—a heightened responsiveness and sensitivity to living on the edge—simultaneously urgent, extreme, and paradoxically stimulating.
